Once again, Christmas came early courtesy of the fine folks at Madison House: The 2019 Electric Forest lineup is here! Before we delve into that, allow me to remind those of you with loyalty codes from previous Forests that the presale starts TOMORROW, December 5th at 12 pm ET. Be there (for your heavily discounted tickets) or risk crying yourself to sleep in your pillow…or just wait for the general on-sale on Friday, also at 12 pm ET.
If you haven’t noticed yet, the powers that be decided to revert back to a single weekend for the 2019 festival, citing conservation efforts as the main reason for the shift. Ensuring the Forest is well-taken care of means it can continue to offer the same incredible experience to those who pass through the trees for years to come. Halving the attendance will surely go a long way to achieving that goal, but that’s not the only thing they’re doing.
The grounds are getting new grass, upgraded landscapes (I’m not sure what that means, to be honest), and infrastructure improvements. Hopefully, some of that infrastructure includes the Observatory set-up which went from ornately carved wood to pastel line art last year.
But enough about that, let’s take a look at the lineup to see who else is headed to the Forest. String Cheese Incident is back to three days, which should make all of their fans pleased as punch. Claude Von Stroke returns, although with only one member of Dirtybird in tow, Sacha Robotti. Hopefully, we’ll see a couple more in the next announcement. Forest favorites Odesza are back in their usual Thursday night headline spot.
Kygo will make his Forest debut, headlining Friday night. Other EF virgins include the incredible House mama Honey Dijon and, of all people, T-Pain. We’ll see if we actually wind up seeing him take the stage or if he will fall to the same ill fate of previous hip-hop headliners.
Aside from that, it’s a lot of returning artists, many returning for the third or fourth time. Just like the rest of us. Of course, there’s also Bassnectar, who’s on board to play every Forest from here until there’s no more Bassnectar.
There’s also a few new options for camping, including, I shit you not, cardboard boxes to sleep in. You can dress it up all you like by calling it an Eco-Tent, but at the end of the day, you’ll be sleeping a la “Derelicte.” However, the tent will be set up for you ahead of time, so you’ll be able to drop your bags off and head right into the Forest. The same goes for the more bourgeoisie option of GA EFfortless Camping, tucked in by the main entrance, featuring a real “commemorative” tent that you can take home with you, as well as private showers and fancy bathrooms with AC and flushable toilets. Head to the EF Ticketing page for full details and pricing.
Back for 2019 is the Electric Forest Wish Machine, challenging attendees to find something to offer or a way to improve the world in some meaningful way, and attach that to some kind of payment or reciprocation from themselves. The attendees that had accepted wishes were treated to a secret set in the Forest as well as guided meditation from Griz. Head to the Wish Machine page to see some of the examples from last year and to submit your own ideas.
It’s going to be a busy week with the ticket sales, so get yourself ready for the presales or the general on-sale. Good luck, and I hope to see you in the Forest!
