if you guys havent heard yet, the new deal was faced with some conflicts with their bass player dan kurtz so with jamie shields on keys and darren shearer on drums they have formed THE JOIN. its basically a "metamorphosis" of the new deal and the two are focusing on completely improvisational shows with members of other bands depending where in the country they are playing. theyve already teamed up with murph from sts9, as well as members from the disco biscuits and brothers past. CHECK EM OUT...ITS THE NEW NEW DEAL Tongue

THE JOIN ON MYSPACE
this was started a few years back, but they are playing at my buddys festival this summer called Muddy River Jam Festival check it out!!
WHAT??? That is a sick lineup... I like their sound, they have a space funk fusion thing going on... I definitely hear the influences from STS9 too!

And I've embedded their player to make listening easier for peeps!

awesome good call man! idk where youre located but muddy river is in southern NJ theyll be playing one of the nights its during august 13-15
My cousin is in Sussex county... That anywhere near there? lol
hahahaa complete opposite ends of nj. MRJF is about 20 min outside of philly
so are they done making music using the name "the new deal"? i just saw them about 3 weeks ago w/ the biscuits and they had their regular lineup.
I'm lovin their new stuff btw thanks for the update Smile
no the new deal is still alive and well...i read deeper into to it and the join has been going on for a few years now its just that the bassist has a busy schedule and other commitments to another project so the drummer and keyboardist formed this so that they can keep playing when hes not around
The New Deal is playing in Cooperstown, NY @ Brewery Ommegang... Might have to make the trip over there for that!
I got a chance to see The Join for a Disco Biscuits after- party when they came to Buffalo. I really wasn't that impressed to be honest. Maybe it's because it was directly after the biscuits played, who happen to be one of my favorite livetronica bands. It just lacked something to me. I dunno, I didn't hate it but I didn't love it....

I'm getting a chance to see the new deal for the first time at All Good. Definitley willing to give they're style another shot and see what it's like with their normal bassist in action.
Dude. The New Deal are insane live. I just saw them a couple months ago in Hartford with Big Gigantic. Ive also seen The Join...must say Im a bigger New Deal fan.
