Courtesy of Annie Mac and BBC Radio 1, George FitzGerald returned to our lives with new music last night with a new single, ‘Burns.’ It’s a natural extension of his 2015 album ‘Fading Love,’ and right at home with the rest of his catalog, great for dancing by yourself or for any place in a dark, crowded club.

The track is a slow and additive build, and the combination curb-drop and addition of the bassy synth line at about the 1:28 mark is a pretty perfect musical sequence. Along with the new song, George brought news that the track is the first release off of his sophomore album due out Spring 2018, which will accompany a tour with his new live set-up. It’s not a surprise move for somebody who opened for Bonobo, who moves so deftly between DJ sets and live performances. In fact, one of the members of the band he recruited is Mike Lesirge from Bonobo’s touring band. I only wonder how they will manage to live remix his version of Jon Hopkins’ ‘Open Eye Signal,’ because he really, really needs to keep playing that.
