Finally, a bit of good news for residents of the Houston area. It may not be housing or clean-up, but it does contain the promise of the healing power of music.

Day for Night proudly announced their intentions to remain in Houston this past week, then dropped the lineup for their 2017 festival today, and there is a LOT to get excited about. It’s a well-rounded mix of innovative artists from across a range of genres, from hip-hop to R&B to techno to experimental to whatever you want to call Nine Inch Nails. For the R&B piece, one standout name is Solange, but there’s also…En Vogue? Yes, like “Don’t Let Go” and “Free Your Mind” 90’s R&B hey-day En Vogue.

There’s also drum and bass legend Roni Size, experimental legend Laurie Anderson, and house/everything legend in progress, Jamie xx. You can be as loud as or as weird as you want to, and you can do so among some of the equally innovative lighting displays and sculptures collected under one roof. This is by no means just about music, nor is it meant to be observed from a distance. The Day for Night Experience is immersive. Head to their Lineup page for a full list and links to each sound/light artist’s work. Check the video below for a taste of what you’re in for.

Hosted again at the historic Barbara Johnson Post Office, built by the same design firm as the Houston Astrodome, creators and attendees will have plenty of room to work with and to explore in its four floors and 1.5 million square feet of indoor/outdoor space.

Hit up Day for Night’s Eventbrite page for the different ticketing options.

I work, live and play in Minneapolis. I help people talk to computers. I write about music. A lot.
