Dave Tipper is a producer who’s music I have been enjoying for a great many years now, and a producer who’s work across a decade of time and a wide span of electronic styles has been not only thoroughly enjoyable but massively influential to boot. From his IDM explorations with Mike Wallis as Crunch, through his excellent downtempo/trip-hop productions old and new and out into his work on uptempo breaks and glitch-hop, Tipper has always displayed an aptitude for awesome sound design and fantastic composition, whether he’s aiming for beauty or just bass heft.
Now it seems the man needs our help. From his Facebook page:
In 17 hours from now I have to undergo open heart surgery. (I am very scared.) In an attempt to lessen the blow of medical costs from this major procedure, I am releasing an EP of ‘VIP’ remixes that I’ve been playing in my live sets over the last couple of years. My good friends at Addictech are hosting the release and are forgoing their percentage, so that 100% of the money from your purchase goes towards helping me out. There is also a paypal donation address (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you feel like contributing more.
My intention is to bounce back from this stronger than ever, but regardless of what happens from here on out, i’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over the years. It’s been a pleasure serving you all.
You can grab the VIP EP (and hear previews) over at Addictech. Go grab yourselves some tidy new glitch-hop, give $4.50 for a good cause, and with any luck the man will be with us for many years to come.
